Terms of Use

These terms apply to the HVACopedia app (iPhone, Android and web) and the hvacopedia.ca website, operated by Hvacopedia Tech Inc. ("we", "us"). By using HVACopedia you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Safety first. HVACopedia gives general guidance for qualified technicians. Always follow the manufacturer's manual for the exact model and the codes in your area. Gas, electrical and refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician. Never bypass a safety control.

1. Who HVACopedia is for

HVACopedia is a reference tool for trained HVAC and gas technicians. It is not meant for homeowners or anyone without the training and licences the work requires (in Ontario, for example, a TSSA gas technician certificate for gas work and the proper licence for refrigerant and electrical work).

2. General guidance only

Error code descriptions and troubleshooting steps are a general summary written in our own words. They may be incomplete, out of date or different from your exact model or software version. The manufacturer's installation and service manuals, the rating plate, and the codes and regulations where you work always take priority over anything in HVACopedia.

3. Safety

Turn off power, gas and water before servicing as the manual requires. Never bypass, jumper or disable a safety control, limit, pressure switch or flame sensor to keep equipment running. If you smell gas, leave the area and call the gas utility or 911. Check for carbon monoxide after any work on combustion equipment.

4. Calculators

Pipe sizing, meter clocking and other calculators are aids. Check the results against the current edition of the code that applies to your job (such as CSA B149.1 in Canada) and the manufacturer's tables before you install.

5. AI assistant

Answers from the AI assistant are generated automatically and can be wrong. Treat them as suggestions and confirm them with the manual before acting.

6. Your account

Keep your password private and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what is done with it. You can delete your account at any time from the app.

7. Acceptable use

You may use HVACopedia on your own devices for your own professional work. You may not:

copy, scrape, download in bulk, republish, sell or share the content;
use it to build another database or app, or to train an AI model;
use bots or scripts to read it, or try to get around limits or security;
upload anything unlawful, or anything that is not yours to share.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.

8. Ownership

The text, steps, tables, calculators and the way the library is organized belong to us and are protected by copyright. Manufacturer names, trademarks and manuals belong to their owners.

9. Brands and sources

HVACopedia is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any equipment manufacturer unless a page clearly says so. Brand and model names are used only to identify equipment. Where a code or step is based on a manufacturer's published manual, the source is listed on that page so you can check the original.

10. Field reports

Reports you send may be reviewed, edited and added to HVACopedia to help other technicians. By sending a report you give Hvacopedia Tech Inc. a free, permanent licence to use, edit and publish it for that purpose, and you confirm it is your own work and not copied from a manual. Do not include customer names, addresses or other personal information in a report.

11. Company accounts

Companies that use the job features are responsible for the information they and their staff enter, including customer information, and for having the right to share it with us.

12. No warranty and limits on liability

HVACopedia is provided "as is", without any warranty. You decide what work to do and how to do it, and you are responsible for that work. To the extent permitted by law, Hvacopedia Tech Inc. is not liable for any loss, damage or injury that results from using HVACopedia.

13. Changes

We may update HVACopedia and these terms. If a change is important we will tell you in the app, and you may be asked to accept the new terms before you continue.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
