710 Gas solenoid circuit – valve position mismatch
What the control is telling you
The board checked the gas valve position and it does not match the commanded position.
Applies to: I-Series Plus boilers — 150K BTU and smaller and 175K BTU and higher (Combi and Solo)
Likely causes
- PC Board gas shut-off DIP switch set to ON
- Loose, broken or damaged gas solenoid wiring
- Gas solenoid out of spec
- Failed gas solenoid valve assembly
- Failed PC Board
Test and repair steps
- Make sure the PC Board DIP switch is OFF (default); when ON it electronically closes the main gas solenoid and triggers 710.
- Inspect the gas solenoid harnesses back to the PC Board for loose, broken or damaged connections.
- Warning: Turn off electrical, gas and water supply before the following steps.
- At PC Board connector CN8, measure black pin #11 to yellow pin #12: 15–25 ohms or 11–14 VDC.
- Replace the gas solenoid valve assembly if the readings are incorrect.
- If that doesn't fix it, replace the PC Board.
- Before swapping the PC Board, write down all parameter settings, then copy them from the old board using the data transfer cable supplied with the new board (see the part's instructions).
- If data transfer fails, re-program all parameters and set gas valve values per the Installation and Operation Manual (150K and smaller: also see docs 800000253 and 800000254).
