What the control is telling you

Amber flame LED blinking rapidly means flame is sensed when it should not be. See code 14.

Applies to: 802P/80MDP (802PA050-150); R95P (R95PA040-115); Rheem (-)GRC upflow and (-)GTC downflow/horizontal 90 Plus condensing gas furnaces (UT Electronic Controls 1012-925 / 1028-928 and Invensys ICC-H1MC7-01 IFC); Rheem 90RJ and 90TJ 90 Plus condensing gas furnaces (UT Electronic Controls 1012-925 or Invensys ICC-H1MC7-01 IFC, hot surface ignition)

Likely causes

  • Gas valve leaking or stuck open
  • IFC gas valve relay stuck / voltage at valve with no call
  • Gas valve leaking through or not shutting off
  • Voltage still present at the gas valve after W is off
  • Faulty IFC

Test and repair steps

  1. Warning: If flame stays on, close the manual gas valve before cutting power.
  2. Confirm W to C = 0 V at the IFC.
  3. Check for voltage at the gas valve; check gas valve and IFC.
  4. See code 14.
  5. Warning: If gas does not shut off, close the manual gas valve to the appliance before shutting off electrical power - risk of fire or explosion.
  6. With the thermostat off, confirm W to C is 0 V at the IFC.
  7. Check for voltage at the gas valve; if voltage is present with W off, check the IFC.
  8. If no voltage is present and burners/flame persist, replace the gas valve.
