PC00 Inverter module (IPM) protection

High severity Midea DLCURA ducted single-zone inverter heat pump (outdoor)

What the control is telling you

The compressor inverter module has shut down to protect itself (over-current/over-temperature/drive fault).

Applies to: DLCURAH18-60 AAK/ABK single-zone heat pump outdoor units (18K-60K, regular and High Heat)

Likely causes

  • Supply voltage problem
  • Poor heat transfer from IPM (heat sink)
  • Compressor mechanical/winding problem
  • Overcharge or high head pressure
  • Failed IPM / outdoor board

Test and repair steps

  1. Warning: Turn off and lock out power at the outdoor disconnect and wait for the inverter capacitors to discharge before touching the outdoor board or compressor wiring.
  2. Check supply voltage is within 187-253 V at the outdoor unit.
  3. Check the outdoor coil is clean and the fan is running - high head pressure overloads the inverter.
  4. Check compressor wiring (U/V/W) for loose or burnt terminals.
  5. Verify refrigerant charge per the installation instructions.
  6. If the fault repeats, test the compressor and replace the IPM/outdoor board per the service manual.
