EAL R-32 refrigerant leak detected - mitigation mode
What the control is telling you
The R-32 sensor on the indoor coil detected refrigerant. The furnace shuts off gas heat, runs the blower at maximum airflow and energizes the optional ventilation and alarm outputs. It returns to normal 5 minutes after the leak is no longer detected.
Applies to: Daikin DR96TN (upflow/horizontal) and DD96TN (downflow/horizontal) two-stage 96% furnaces with 9-speed ECM motor, R-32 ready
Likely causes
- Refrigerant leak at the indoor coil or nearby line set
- A2L verification test (A2u menu) running
Test and repair steps
- Warning: R-32 is a mildly flammable (A2L) refrigerant - ventilate the area and keep ignition sources away.
- Check whether someone started the A2L verification test (A2u menu = yes); it ends after 5 minutes or when turned off.
- Leak-check the indoor coil and line set and repair the leak.
- Let the furnace finish its 5-minute post-leak fan run; it then drops the ventilation/alarm outputs and goes back to normal operation.
